The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is a therapeutic time-limited listening intervention designed to help improve resilience, emotional regulation, social engagement, and overall well-being, particularly in people affected by trauma, anxiety, autism, ADHD, and other stress-related challenges. Developed by Dr. Stephen Porges based on his Polyvagal Theory, the SSP uses specially filtered music to stimulate the vagus nerve and regulate the autonomic nervous system.
The therapeutic protocol involves listening to specially processed music through headphones. The music is acoustically filtered to emphasize frequencies of the human voice and reduce background noise, helping “train” the nervous system to feel safer and more able to socially engage with others.
Sessions are delivered with a trained therapist, either in-person or remotely and clients are supported throughout the process to ensure if feels safe and manageable.
Caron Leader is certified to administer the Safe and Sound Protocol.
